St. Petersburg Launches Competition to Design a New Park Overlooking the Hermitage
From Strelka Mag
Architects and landscape designers from around the world now have the opportunity to make history and contribute to the unique urban landscape of St. Petersburg by designing a new park in the city's historic center, a UNESCO heritage site.

On November 15, the city launched the international competition for the architectural landscape design concept for Tuchkov Buyan Park. Eight shortlisted projects will receive a remuneration of $60,000.

Located on the banks of the Neva River, the site is close to the city's most celebrated landmarks: the Hermitage, the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Treasury ensemble, the Rostral Columns of Vasilievsky Island, the Admiralty, and the famous St. Petersburg drawbridges.

Tuchkov Buyan will become a city park with direct access to the Neva River that will unite St. Petersburg's green spaces with a single, continuous pedestrian route. The architects are tasked with offering new panoramic views of the city's main landmarks, such as the Hermitage, which is currently not clearly seen from the ground level.

The goal of the competition is to define the vision and landscape architectural concept for the park, ensuring it meets the demands of city residents, visitors, and the expert community.

Russian and international landscape designers and architects are invited to participate. The deadline for application submission is January 15, 2020. The competition was initiated by the government of St. Petersburg, organized by DOM.RF Joint Stock Company, and operated by Strelka KB consultancy firm, in partnership with the European University at St. Petersburg. The competition is endorsed by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) and supported by ISOCARP.
